Research into chosen design style

Because I will be designing hoodies for all of the soon to be cast members of Walt Disney World, I immediately knew that I want to work in the original design style of Disneyland California when it opened in 1955. This is classic quirky 1950's illustration in the hope that it will be nostalgic, but this look is also trending among genuine Disney parks merchandise, and so will be a nice piece for everyone to wear!

The quirky shapes in this style are distinctive to the era.

I really love the effects of mono printing and the overlapping effect given to this type of illustration. The use of two-tones of colour are often used also.

Again, the effects of hand rendering are strong and add fun to the design.

The limited use of colours tie in the whole of the design together. What I noticed in particular about this design was the use of a 'grid' to help frame all of the illustrations.

As you can see, this style is used in modern day Walt Disney World advertising.

I really love this typeface as it is quirky and fun, yet serif and so bold.

This is my favourite colour scheme that I have seen so far. Although it's like a previous design in it's use of a 'grid' I also love the way that sometimes the illustrations overlap out of their frames and into other ones. The hand rendered effects are also present again in this design.

The 'screenprint' overlapping style is accustom to this era of illustration.

Teal, off white, pinky-red and mustards are accustom to this style, and barely any primary colours are used.

The misshapen perspectives and shadows are a distinct detail to this style, which I will be sure to use in my work.

This piece by Disney Legend Mary Blair uses the off-primary colour palette, the misshapen grid and the overlapping illustrations.

I want to include some of the famous foods of the Disney parks and I think that this image is the perfect reference for this style in terms of flat ellipse at the bottom and the top of the 3d designs. The hand rendered effect is present again!

My favourite of all these foods are the Dole Whip (ice cream) because it's distinctive to the Disney Parks, and can only be found in Epcot.

Maybe I could draw an illustration to represent each of the different roles as opposed to making separate designs?
