The nautical - Steampunk style is synonymous with Jules Verne adventure novels. Cogs, machinery, Victoriana typefaces and dimmed colours are the identity of Steampunk.
Jules Verne. Michel Strogoff.
An original book cover design for a collection of Jules Verne novels features gold embossing and bright hues. These might be giveaway style for this era that I could feature in my designs.

Victorian travel posters

This is a rare travel poster from British India. The Railways were one the best gifts to India from the British in the 1800's. The first train started in Bombay and eventually all of India even the most remote parts were connected to each other by railway lines. Railways are a major part of Indian life, even today. The Train from Bombay to Poona is called the Deccan queen and holds a special place in Indian railways as a great luxurious accomplishment in the history of British India.Vintage poster
Although I knew quite a lot about the typography I was to use for the Victoriana theme, I wanted to look at these Victorian travel posters for ideas about colours and shapes. I noticed that more often than not the prints are in black and white. Inkeeping with authenticity but still making the ephemera colourful, I thought that maybe I could have photographs in the background of the posters of the different places on the trip while the foreground remains black/ white. Like these designs:

And so I am now looking into different background photos for the collection:
